Description

The electroscope is used to find out whether there is an electric charge on the objects and, if so, its amount. Air insulation is provided by covering both sides of the electroscope with glass.

When the electroscope is charged, both leaves are loaded with the same kind and equal charge, and the leaves open by pushing each other, but the charge of the electroscope must be neutralized first. The angle between the leaves is directly proportional to the amount of charge. If the amount of charge increases, the angle increases, if the amount of charge decreases, the angle between the leaves also decreases. Accordingly, we can tell whether the electroscope is charged or not, whether the leaves are open or not. When an object is touched to a neutral electroscope, if the leaves open, it means that the touched object is definitely charged. As a result of being electrified by touch, it is charged in the electroscope and its leaves open. But in this case the sign of the load cannot be understood. In order to understand the sign of the charge, we need to bring the charged object close to an electroscope of which the sign of the charge is known.

It is among the materials used in the physics and science laboratories of schools and in experiments for the science, education and teaching of electrostatics.
