It is used to measure the inertial force and to qualitatively understand the terms mass and weight. This principle can be used to determine mass under weightless conditions in spaceflight.
The set of inertia balances consists of two aluminum trays joined by a pair of steel strips attached at the sides. Both trays are 130×50 mm in size and the trays are approximately 200 mm apart. One of the trays (oscillating tray) is perforated to hold five cylindrical masses and the other tray, acting as a counter support, is attached to a table with a table clamp. Five support pins are included in the set to fit inside the rollers (table clamp not included).
