It is used as an adjustable resistor, that is, a current limiter, in electrical experiments. 5 A current can be drawn, it has a resistance value of 11 ohms.
The rheostat is in the form of a single tube and open type, and consists of a resistance wire layer supported on bakelite legs, wrapped on an insulating and heat resistant porcelain tube. A brass sliding contact supported by Bakelite feet moves on brass coiled wires. Three 4 mm banana socket terminals, one to the sliding contact and the other two to the winding leads.
